Electric APU Installation: What to Prepare Before Your Appointment

By Polar Fox APU

Send the installer useful information

Share the truck year, make, model and cab configuration. Include photos of the battery area, frame space, rear of the sleeper and existing equipment. Mention any modifications that could affect mounting or access.

Describe your intended overnight loads and charging routine. This helps the installer identify requirements before the appointment, rather than discovering that the cooling-only quote needs an inverter or another charging option.

Agree on the scope in writing

Confirm what equipment, mounting work and commissioning are included. Ask about removal of an old APU, shipping, installation duration and any expected overnight arrangements. Treat these as planning questions rather than assuming every truck takes the same time.

Ask how unexpected work will be handled and approved. A documented process protects both parties when access limitations or existing truck issues change the original assumptions.

Prepare the truck for access

Follow the installer’s instructions for clearing the work area and bringing the vehicle in. Remove personal items that block access to the planned installation locations. Make sure the technician can review relevant truck records and previous modifications.

Do not disconnect or modify the electrical system unless specifically directed by qualified personnel. Preparation should make the work area accessible, not create new faults before the appointment.

Leave with a complete handoff

Ask for a demonstration of cooling controls, battery indicators, charging and any optional equipment. Request the installed component list, warranty documents and the owner maintenance schedule.

Photograph the completed installation and keep those images with your records. Polar Fox’s installation gallery can help you discuss appearance, while the installer confirms the actual fit and routing for your truck.
